Brow lamination explained: is it right for your brows?

Laminated brows are everywhere right now, and for good reason. But what actually is brow lamination, and is it right for you? Here's the plain-English version.

What is brow lamination?

Brow lamination is a treatment that relaxes and resets the direction of your brow hairs, brushing them up and into a fuller, fluffier, more even shape — then setting them there. It's a bit like a "perm" for your brows. At the studio I include a tint and a shape with it, so you leave with brows that are groomed, defined and beautifully uniform.

Who is it best for?

It's brilliant if your brow hairs are unruly, grow in different directions, or have gaps that close up nicely once the hairs are brushed to fill them. It's also lovely for anyone who wants that polished, brushed-up brow look without reaching for gel and pencil every morning.

If your brows are very sparse, lamination can still help the hairs you do have go further, though it won't create hair where there isn't any.

How long does it last?

Brow lamination typically lasts around six weeks, depending on your natural hair growth. The tint tends to soften from around week two, and a top-up tint can keep everything looking fresh in between.

Does it hurt or damage the brows?

There's no pain — you'll feel the products working but it's a relaxed treatment. Done properly and not over-processed, it's gentle on the hairs. As with any brow or lash service, good aftercare matters.

Aftercare in a nutshell

Keep the brows dry and don't rub them for the first 24 hours, skip heavy creams and oils directly on them for a day or two, and brush them up daily to keep that neat shape. A little brow oil later in the cycle keeps the hairs conditioned.

A quick note on patch tests

Because there's tint involved, a patch test at least 48 hours before is needed if you're new to the treatment. It's a small step that keeps everything safe.
